Vacancy?!

This Blue Jay was checking out this sparrow nest the other afternoon.  Sorry pal but you're too big, move along.

Just Hanging

A couple of nice photo of visiting birds.

Both calmly perched and enjoying the afternoon with seeming not a care in the world.

Interesting note, the trees these birds are perched in, Boxelder, are no more!  The abutting neighbor cut down 90% of the trees in his backyard, which sadly backs to our backyard.  It's WIDE open now, no privacy any longer.  Sad really.

Just A Jay Try'n To Get A Nut

I spied this Blue-Jay working on an acorn, peck peck pecking away trying to get it opened.  Never saw that before.  Interesting.  I'm really not a big Blue-Jay fan.  They're bullies, loud and too nervous a bird for my liking.  However, in the now drab surroundings, a Blue-Jay blue stands out an is attractive.

Ever nervous, this dude didn't stick around too long before dropping his spoils and heading higher up where he could keep a better eye on things.

Birds of The Snow

Our March snowstorm caught everyone by surprise.  Many birds were our during the storm to visit the feeders and fill their bellies -

Ole Homestead Mess Hall

I filled the bird feeders last weekend.

Amazing how quickly they know they've been filled.

This Blue Jay didn't waste any time -

An Eastern Bluebird, one of my favorites made an early appearance too -

The peanut butter suet is a big hit too.  The Bluebird is keep watch and patiently waiting for the Downy Woodpecker to finish up -

What's All That Racket

Just passing through...

With Fall upon us the Blue Jay has become much more prevalent.  They're actually an attractive bird with their blue, black and white colors.  A skittish and a noisy bird too, always making a racket.  They've been darting in and out, here and there but never sitting still for too long.  They seem to enjoy the Bittersweet berries best but scrounge for other morsels as well.

A Passerine Bird - The Blue Jay

Ever since the bird feeders went up last week we've had oodles and oodles of birdies visiting and dinning.

My outdoor thermometer read 18 degrees yesterday, however, that didn't seem to bother the birds.  Here is a handsome Blue Jay grabbing a nibble.

They're a skittish bird and easily spooked.  They seems to swoop in, grab some food and then they're off, up in the trees at a safe distance.

They offer a beautiful blue color to the otherwise drab colors of Winter.
