"Butta-Butta"

It's that time of the season!

My garden is turning out the rewards of all my hard work and everything is SO DELICIOUS!

This is my attempt at recreating one of my mother's dishes, a tomato, red onion and feta cheese salad.  Although, not the same as my moms, close, it certainly does bring back some wonderful memories and still very tasty!

Back in the day I wasn't interested in the tomato or the onion, yuck!  It was all about the juices, "butta-butta" as we'd call it - fresh tomato juices with some oil and vinegar, salt and pepper.  A fresh piece of Italian Scali bread to sop up the juices with was all that I needed!

It's always nice to revisit parts of the past, especially with such fond memories.

Motorcycle

Diadophis punctatus

I found this beauty in my pool on Sunday, a Ring-necked snake!

Seems to be a yearly occurrence the last handful of seasons.

Ring-necked snakes are secretive, nocturnal creature and rarely seen during the day.  I imagine they weren't too happy to be spending time swimming in the hot sun and were quick to slither off when I released them.

They're such a cool and docile creature.

I introduced it to Trixie and Oliver.  Trixie could care less after her initial sniffs but Oliver on the other hand was infatuated and couldn't get enough.

This is another Ring-necked snake that I pulled from the pool on Monday!

Nope, NOT the same snake.  This one was larger and just as beautiful.

Awesome colors, the charcoal black against the orange belly and ring around it's neck!

Always a pleasure catching one of these critters!

Oh SO Fresh, YUM!

I'm now reaping and eating 🤤 the rewards for all the work I put into my garden!

It's SO gratifying to go to the garden to pick your diner!  To know that what I planted is chemical free, safe and as fresh as fresh can be!

I'm enjoying endless BLTs, tomato and feta salads like my mom used to make and homemade pizza covered with fresh sliced tomatoes -

Bean casseroles, sautéed and baked bean dishes.  I've also prepared a and have frozen bags full too -

My favorite, silver queen corn!  Picked these last night, shucked and into the boiling water they went. I was SO excited to sink my teeth into these that I burnt the roof of my mouth for not waiting for them to cool.  No worries though, small price to pay for how scrumptious these are -

Looking forward to how my potatoes and carrots turn out!

I Don't Get Sick Of This Sight!

Another awesome sunset off my back deck the other evening!

What a beautiful night too, sitting on my deck, enjoying the peace and quiet, as the crickets and fireflies were coming to life.

"The Bee Hotel"

My millennium allium is doing great again this summer!

I'm considering, come the fall, of dividing this plant but have some apprehension as I don't want to risk damaging it.

A pollinator favorite, this plant is low maintenance, drought tolerant, fast growing, deer and bunny proof with long lasting blooms!

This perennial plant checks all the boxes!

Before this plant bloomed I didn't have too many honey bees visiting even though I have oodles of flowering plants for them to dine on.  However, there are scads of honey bees on these flowers constantly!  Hence, the reason some folks refer to this plant as "the bee hotel".

It's Monday, Alas...

Pollinators Rejoice!

My MAMMOTH sunflowers!

These monsters did well and are named properly, as some are close to 10' tall!

Their flowers started this week and are already hosting all sort of insects and critters.

Not the best afternoon for taking pics, as you can see it was dark and overcast but still impressive.

"Kitchen King"

I picked my first batch of green beans yesterday!

They did great this season, as you can see and once I took care of the rabbit issue 😉.

There are oodles more coming from this planting AND I have a second planting I sowed about a month after this one, so I will have more beans that I can use or know what to do with.

I'm looking for some tasty and different recipes to try.

Philodendron Selloum

I was given this philodendron sulloum back in the fall by an old friend of my folks who moved to an assisted living facility.  It was in rough shape at the time, starving for light and also rootbound.  I kept in in the basement until the spring, when the weather warmed, then outside it went.  I repotted into a larger pot and added some fresh Miracle Grow indoor plant soil.  Fast forward to today and this bad boy has taken off and doubled in size and looks terrific!  It's loves being out, under the deck, in the sun (partial shade) and rain.

However, I'm now faced with a dilemma with fall approaching.  Obviously, it can't remain outdoors during our New England winters, so inside it must go but the question is where inside?  The basement is more of a place to go dormant and to overwinter my plants, so they don't freeze and die.  It's not a place for them to grow and thrive.  Ideally, I would like to have it someplace in the living area to be enjoyed and for it continues to grow.  The problem is, Philodendrons are a very poisonous houseplant and is NOT recommended to have pets around this plant.

I guess we'll see and I'll make a decision when the time comes to bring it inside.  Until then it'll stay where it is to enjoy what's left of the summer.

Mr. Grumpy Cat

The king on his throne!

He's just SO grumpy at times.

Just look at his puss and the glare he's giving me, what a dink!

He sleeps in the weirdest positions -

And in the weirdest places too -

He has his favorite spots for sure but some of the spots he picks are odd and seemingly out of the blue. He's always content wherever he decides to nap.

"To Cherish A Desire With Anticipation"

Does the pain ever really end?

Some pain maybe.

Others, we're forced to make space for it and carry it.

We learn to live with it.

Find The Critter

Can you find the critters in the below pictures?

Admittedly, the second pic is easy peasy.

I don't want to make it too difficult for yeah all.

The BIG One Two Today!

Happy Birthday 🎂 Trixie!!

12 years old today!

"Let's Go!"

Went to the New England Patriot's first preseason game of the season!

Section 335 -

Got to see the new and recently unveiled video screen first hand. The curved board measures 370 feet by 60 feet, equating to 22,000 square feet and nearly half of an acre. It is five times larger than the one it replaced -

Someone was either picked up or dropped off via helicopter during the game.  The pic below was the helicopter taking off but before it flew off, it hovered there for quite some time taking in the game -

We were fortunate that the rain held off and were spared getting soaked.  Would have been nice had the Pats won but no matter it was a nice take and a nice night out, plus it's only a  preseason game.

AND Another!

Another power red blood donation in the books!

Working towards my 7-gallon badge and getting close!

Power red donors need to wait 112 days before being eligible to donate again.  So while waiting, I've already scheduled my next donation appointment for early December.

I'm getting quite the collection of Red Cross donation t-shirts -

Disappointing Hike Attempt

Although, I've been to the Delcarte conservation area here in Franklin many times over the years, I've never walked the trails, see picture above.  We'd always spend our time around the dam area, near the parking lot, fishing or looking for frogs and turtle and snakes.

Many people on the Franklin Facebook page have raved about how great the walking trails are, so I figured it was time I gave it a walk myself.  Here are my take aways:

The dam area, some 1000' long, was overgrown with weeds, as was much of the walking trails. So much so that it was nearly impossible to get close to the water.  Perhaps, there are DEP regulation that restrict what can and can't be cut or perhaps it's the town of Franklin just being lazy, as they've shown in SO many other areas of the town that lack their upkeep.  Either way, seems if this is a touted conservation area with walking trails, they should be maintained to some level and kept open and accessible.

The dam area was littered with dog shit, I kid you not!  Same on the wooded walking trails too, some even in poop bags just discarded on the side of the trail. Another example of lazy, selfish, disrespectful POS!  The ironic things, in my opinion, is many of these professed dog owners are the first with their big mouths to come forward to defend this type of behavior with some silly justification as to the reasons why and they're some of the BIGGEST offenders of following the rules.  For example, letting their dogs off leash - you know because their dogs are so well behaved.  Never mind if others in the area are afraid of dogs or not picking up after their dog, to name a few.

Annoying families with their yelling and screaming, all of them!  My intention was to get off the beaten path and away from people (ALL OF THEM!) and the noise of the every day hustle and bustle.  Much to my dismay there were several groups and each had younger kids who were yelling and screaming and crying.  From what I saw, they had no business being off in the woods in their flip-flops and sandals and sundresses.  Of course, the parents were yelling too, as they were micro-parenting their kids - "don't touch that", "stay away from the water", "come back you're wandering too far", or the kids who starting bawling because they tripped and went down or the one person on their phone talking, etc. etc. etc..  After all, it's all about "them" with NO care for their surroundings or anyone else.  I was hoping to see some wildlife but that's next to impossible with all the noise.

Instead of doing the 1.2 mile blue circle trail walk that I had intended, I did the 0.87 green diamond trail walk, then hightailed it out.  I couldn't get outta there fast enough,  All in all I left there very disappointed!  Fairly certain it was my first and last time walking those trails.

A Pure Heart

Sure doesn't feel that way from where I'm sitting 😥

Perhaps some day it'll all make sense.

Revisiting My Past

Took at drive to Cleveland Circle today, specifically to grab lunch at Pino's Pizza in Brighton.

Pino's, Cleveland Circle, Chestnut Hill Mall, Newton, Route9, these are all special places with each holding a very special meaning in my life of a time gone by.  A time when I was head over heals in love - my first love.  The person who stole my heart.  Who broke my heart and who has held a piece of it all these years later.

It was nice to revisit some of these places again today. Although, so much has changed, it still brought back fond memories, yet as if they happened just yesterday

Very emotional 😥

Pino's Pizza, one of the best pizza I've ever had -

Ordered myself a small cheese and it was delicious just as I remember it!

I grabbed myself a picnic table in the shade, near the ballfield and took my time, savoring each bite, as I reminisced of a time gone by and a time I truly miss.  I'd be lying if I told there weren't any tears.

They were selling t-shirts and couldn't resist, so I grabbed a couple -

Oops, Crack!

Harmlessly dropped my iPhone the other day.

Frick'n Murphy I tell yeah!

Of course, it had to fall on it's face and of course, it had to fall just right onto the jagged stone.

Good news is that only the protective plastic guard was damaged and cracked, NOT the phone screen, PHEW!  A worthwhile investment for sure.

I popped into the Verizon store yesterday and had them replace the plastic guard with a new one.  Still an expensive boo-boo, as the new guard cost more than I would have thought.

The Open Road II

Another great day on the bike!

Yesterday was an absolutely perfect day weather wise!

128 mile round trip ride out to Princeton, MA and back, with a stop at Davis BBQ restaurant in Sterling, MA for a barbeque lunch!

Scwewy Wabbit II...

Finally caught this SOB!

The damage this little rodent has done to my beans and carrots is infuriating, GRRR!

Even though I put a fence up around the raised bed, this pest was small enough to squeeze through holes and eat away.

Again, where are all the predators at to help keep these vermin in check?

Too many rabbits this year!  They're all over, scads of them.

Parsley As A Host Plant

There is only one reason why I plant parsley in my gardens and it's not to eat or to be used as a garnish.

I plant parsley, as a host plant, to attract the Black Swallowtail caterpillars.

I bought a 4-pack of parsley this spring and planted them in different locations in my gardens.  I check them over every couple of days and yesterday I noticed this beauty hidden nicely and chomping away!

Seems to work every year!
