Hooked On Rice

I've been on a rice kick lately; Jasmine rice!

I typically make enough for a couple of meals, so easy too.

Here are several from the last couple of weeks.

Lemon garlic chicken, broccoli and rice -

Teriyaki salmon and rice -

Sesame chicken, broccoli and rice -

Chinese Ah-So sauce pork spareribs and Ah-So flavored rice, OMG -

Lemon pepper cod and shrimp and Ah-So flavored rice -

Mr. Routine

Oliver is such an odd ball!

He's such a creature of habit too.  I swear he has OCD, like me.  Seems everything he does is routine and the same day in and day out.  From the moment he opens my bedroom door in the morning, around 5ish, till he goes to bed, I can find him in specific spots throughout the day.

This picture shows him relatively new napping place.  Perhaps, because just to the left is my office where I spent most days.  I guess he wants to stay close.

I'm looking to find a local groomer that does cats.  Unfortunately, Trixie's groomer doesn't do cats.  I like to find a place that will give him a bath and a really close shave.  His frick'n hair is EVERYWHERE, I can't stand it, UGH!

Spring 2023 Garlic

For some reason I lost a third of the garlic I planted back in the fall.  However, what remains is doing great and looking good!

I don't recall loosing so many in years past, especially since we had a relatively mild winter.  Perhaps, with little to no snow there was no insulation protecting the plants, so they were more susceptible to some of the bitter sub-zero temps we did have.

It's all good.  I'm pleased with what survived and looking forward to harvest time and ultimately eating time!

Let There Be (LED) Light!

Boy what a difference LED bulbs make!

Amazon had these 2-pack garage LED ceiling lights on sale, which I had been eying for a while now, so I bought them.

What a huge difference these make.  They light up the entire garage now, even in the nooks.

There are (6) multi-fan panels and each adjustable.

Fresh And Sleek

Yesterday was a spa day for Ms. Trixie.

She looks and smells SO much better.

I took advantage of her being out of the house to wash all the pet stuff, e.g. blankets, pillows, beds and toys.  I also was able to eat a breakfast sandwich, all of it, without begging and whining, and having to share.

Orlando Here I Come!

A bit behind on this posting but better late than never.

I took a business trip to Orlando, Florida a couple of weeks ago to attend an enterprise communications and collaboration 3-day conference.

Departed on a Sunday morning -

In flight cocktail - a Bailey's, or in this case the equivalent Bourbon Cream, and soda water.  Don't knock it until you try it, delicious -

A free pass into Epcot for a vendor sponsored outside cocktails and dinner event -

Good ole Epcot, all light up -

On the grounds of Disney, but outside the park is Disney Springs.  Oodles of people, shops, restaurants and activities.  Thank you but I'll pass on that balloon thingy -

Fick'n Goofy -

An out of this world 14 oz New York sirloin, OMG!  The waiter is table-side melting the wad of garlic butter that was atop the steak!  To die for -

All in all it was a very good conference.  A lot learned at the convention and a lot of food and drink consumed too.

Crock Pot Chili Kinda Night!

I pulled out the crock pot again this morning and made myself a batch of chili!

I used ground chicken instead of beef.  Less grease and a bit healthier.

So good too, it certainly hit the spot, especially with a little nip in the air.

Ye Ole Farm Gate

I went from this -

to this -

in just a couple of hours!

I sanded all the rust areas, then sprayed with a black Rust-Oleum.  It now matches the pool fence and the other fence posts around the yard.  It gave it new life and should protect it for years to come.  It pops nice now too!

Look At Me! Look At Me!

I was treated to a show on my Saturday 6AM walk.

Seems that love is in the air.

Several tom's were showing off, as they stalked the hens.  They get so focused that they stop paying attention and can often be found dancing in the middle of the road oblivious to the vehicles.

AND Another Power Red Complete!

Literally just returned home from another Power Red blood donation!

The Red Cross was giving out t-shirts to all the donors. SO, do as Snoopy say and "Be cool. Give blood."

Seems I've become a regular here at the Franklin Elks for these donations and often have the same folks from the Red Cross working, so nice to see familiar faces and joke and chat with them!  They're all good eggs!

Yummy Dinner

I nailed last nights dinner, so good!

Cat Turds

Admittedly, I have SO much trouble litter box scooping cat poop!

Oliver's litter box is a round dome covered type of unit.

All in all, it works well. No complaints.

Here's the issue -

The area where the liter goes is rounded.

The pooper-scooper is square.

I swear Oliver intentionally poops precisely where the square scooper can't reach.

Kind of like trying to get that one pea off your plate and onto your fork.  Or that one hair stuck to the shower wall off by tossing handfuls of water at it as it scooches every so slightly with each attempt.

Try as I may, I'm seldom successful in getting all the turds scooped in one shot, UGH!  My first impression is to use a finger to help, like skootching that one pea onto the fork, but then I remember I'm in a litter box. There's NO finger skootching of a cat turd, no way no how!

Soak Up The Sun

Took this pic the other afternoon on my lunch walk.

These two turkey vultures were perching with wings spread.

I've seen cormorants doing this but it's a first time seeing turkey vultures doing it.

Cormorants do it to dry them themselves after diving for food, since they lack the waterproofing oils other water birds produce.  So, makes perfect sense.  However, turkey vultures do not dive in water for food, so what's the deal?  My guess is they do it to warm themselves up and give them an energy boost.

Whatever the reason, they looked pretty cool sync'd up together.

Happy To Donate

Looks like I donated blood six times in 2022!

I have my first donation of 2023 coming up next week!

Looking to match last years totals.

Lack Of Sportsmanship

I'm a hockey fan!  Always have been.  I supposed I'd list hockey as my favorite sport and luv to watch it.

Growing up we used to play street hockey in front of our house all the time.  When older, we'd rent an ice rink on Friday or Saturday nights for an hour and have some great games and fun times!

When younger, I remember always wanting to watch the Boston Bruins. The era of Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Wayne Cashman, Ken Hodge, goalie Gilles Gilbert my favorite.  I collected all sports cards but hockey was my fav!

Back in the olden days when I grew up we had one television, and I believe this was even before cable, so monopolizing the TV for a hockey game wasn't always accepted or allowed.  Plus, my dad was not a hockey fan, nope.  He was always bothered by the fighting.  Of course I enjoyed the fighting!

Fast forward forty year and I'm still a hockey fan and still enjoying watching it.  The game has changed, it's faster, there's more fineness and the fighting has changed considerably too. There are really no more "enforcers" like there were years ago. You know the player who wasn't too skilled at hockey, a forth line type of player. Someone who could skate and keep up but was on the team to protect the other more skilled players.  The person who was always at the ready to drop the gloves and start swinging if someone did something to the team stars.

I mention the above and how the game of hockey has changed and evolved.  I think my dad would approve of how the game has improved and even be more tolerant.  Maybe even watch a Bruins game or two.

Here is the point I'm trying to make - today fighting can be found in all sports, from the professionals, to the college level, even all the way down to the high school level an beyond AND it's NOT just limited to hockey AND it's not just men, the woman are guilty of it too!  You see news stories, more often than not, of basketball, football, soccer, etc., it's everywhere today.

Perhaps, I've reverted into my dad because I can NOT tolerate the fighting, which I equate with a lack of sportsmanship.  So much so that I think I'm done with all sports, college and professional.  I'm sure I'll watch a game or two here or there, especially when it comes playoff time but otherwise, I can't be bothered and have NOT desire to watch all these spoiled, entitled, primidone athletes; the ones making absolutely stupid amounts of money, and see them loose their cool and revert to start swinging to resolve the issue. There are often too many news report about fighting and it's shameful.

Enough is enough with their ego's and BS.  Whatever happened to respect, professionalism, common curtsey and just basic competitiveness?!  I have better things to do with my time than to sit and watch these idiots.

Go Bruins!

Cowardice

The #1 Biggest Cheating Myth!

Give a listen -

Cowardice

I couldn't agree more!  What do you all think?!
