Summer Homes For Rent...

Harvested our Bird House Gourds the other day.  From the one and only plant, which grew on it's own, we got (11) gourds!  Not a bad haul.

They're cool looking when growing with their green and white coloring but now are turning an ugly brown and grey.  Hoping that we'll be able to successfully dry, store over the winter and hang one or two come summer.

Oodles of Bird House Gourds

Check out our birdhouse gourds!

I believe there are about a dozen gourds that grew from a single plant and they're getting super big too.

Need to do a little research to determine when to pick and how to dry so they don't rot.  If all goes well we'll have one or two make it as true birdhouses for Spring 2014.

Fall 2012 Gourd Haul

So, here are the gourds Emilie and I picked last weekend from our garden.

We've not counted them but I would guess that there are close to 50 gourds in that Woolworth basket!  Anyone remember Woolworth?!

All these gourd from only two plants and they sprang out of our compost pile this Spring from last falls gourd's we used as decoration.  I transplanted them in a more suitable location and as you can see it paid off.

I have NO idea what we're going to do with all these gourds, so if you're in the area stop in and grab yourself one or two...
