Crow Massacre of 2014

This time of year there is very little color outside.  It's drab and dull and blah, so it was easy to spot the black and red colors of the above attach.

The cardinal didn't have a chance.  By the time I noticed what was taking place the attach was over and the crows were all fighting for the spoils.  There were at least six crows all wanting a piece of the cardinal carcass.  The crow in the third picture got a hold of it and off he flew, however, the others were not far behind.

Would have preferred to have the crows take out a House Sparrow or Starling, you know an unattractive, nuisance type bird, instead of a daddy cardinal, alas.

Snow Covered Birdies!

Morning Dove

A couple of Junco's

A couple American Robin's

More bird pictures.  These were taken at the start of last weeks snow storm.  The Junco's were out and about bee-bopping and foraging.  They didn't seem to even notice the snow and how fast it was piling up.

Fire In The Hole...Hope Not!

Now I'm no expert on gas station fire suppression systems but I'm fairly confident that this is an issue!

Oh sure, the ice on this equipment will melt if there is a fire.  However, I suspect it will be after the damage has been done thus defeating the purpose of such a system.

Not to mention the sheet of ice hazard at the base of this which is next to the gas pumps.

Safety first!  Right OSHA?!

Okay, I've had enough winter for one season!

In the words of Popeye the Sailor Man, "That's all I can stands, cuz I can't stands n'more!"

Too bloody cold!

Too much bloody snow!

Think Spring I say!

We Got The Bad Guy!

Hit the Manchester, NH shooting range for some afternoon fun the other day.

Shot a .357, a Beretta and an Uzi!

Had a BLAST (no pun intended)!

It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's a Helicopter?!

Yup and from what I can determine this is a "Skycrane" helicopter.  A Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane helicopter, which is an American twin-engine heavy-lift helicopter.

This dude flew overhead last Sunday.  I thought it was rather unusual.  Certainly not something you see everyday or like ever around these part.

Building #19 Bargain Cereal - Collector's Item

I will holding onto this box of cereal since the Building #19 chain of stores are no more.  Sadly, they filed bankruptcy back in early November 2013, alas.

Always a fun place to browse, as you never knew what bargains were a waiting.

Home Town Cereal!

Home town hero cereal!

I've kept them long enough.  They're now gone. Feed to the chickens. Breakfast of champions for our ladies!

Two less items of clutter in our basement!  After all Rome wasn't built in a day...

Shadow Reading

Reading then snoozing by sunlight!

Eye-see what you're eating!

Trixie dog peering over her shoulder to see what I was snacking on,and wanting a nibble!

Visiting Squirrels Pests

This Grey Squirrel made his way inside the wire wrap around of the bird feeder and was chowing.  Didn't seem to be bothered by the falling snow at all...

This is the Grey Squirrel's nest, which is in a tree above the chicken coop.  Supposed they wanted to live close to their "take out" food, aka our bird feeders!

Here is a lovely Red Squirrel foraging pumpkin seeds from our compost bin. The Red Squirrels are more than welcome.  I would choose these critters over their grey counter parts any day.

What's Wrong With This Photo?

So, I noticed these three ladies jogging down our street this morning - running essentially three abreast.  Just to bring you all up to speed, we just had a major snow storm on Wednesday which dumped approximately 10" - 15" of snow in our area - that's a lot of snow!  Although the streets have been plowed and down to pavement (on the higher traveled roads anyway), they're still awfully narrow.

I also realize that many of the joggers are preparing for the Boston Marathon, I get it.  However, at some point common sense needs to step in and make an appearance.  It's difficult and dangerous enough driving under these conditions, let alone now adding joggers to the mix of things to avoid.

The way things work today, God forbid a driver was to hit a jogger, they'd be facing all kinds of charges.  Yet the joggers who's judgement is suspect would be the victim.

Dipsticks!

Snow Storm Doe

The deer have been visiting lately.  Actually, let me rephrase that, I've noticed the deer visiting lately.  Perhaps, due to the snow cover, as they're easier to spot.  Without it they blend in perfectly with their surroundings.

Chilly Birdies

Baby it's cold outside!

Our (USA) National Bird!

This is truly an unbelievable picture taken by my wife on Friday 1/31/2014 - a BALD EAGLE!!

The picture was taken in the town of Norfolk, MA., around noontime, in the undeveloped, marshy area between the prison (MCI Norfolk) and the Bay State Correctional Center on Clark Street.

I gotta tell yeah if I didn't see the picture I wouldn't believe it.

A Bald Eagle in our neck of the woods!!

Awesome to say the least!

Snow Covered Dove

Here's a Morning Dove hunkering down to weather out the snow storm.

I was surprised to see this dude sitting out in the open.  You'd think they'd know better and find a place that protects them better. You know like in a pine tree for example.

You can see from the pictures that the dude had been there a while with the snow piling up around it.
