My Amaryllis is finally in FULL outstanding bloom!
Sure took it's sweet time too. I planted the bulb back at the end of December, about 3-months ago, but sure worth the wait. A nice way to welcome the arrival of Spring.
My anniversary Amaryllis, which I planted on 12-22-2017, is sure in no hurry to make it's appearance.
It took about one month before there were any signs of life. There's about 1" of growth poking through. Perhaps, now that it's started we'll see better results.
The "Amaryllis Excitement Grows" original posting was on 2/16. If you recall the amaryllis was nothing more than a 12" stalk. It's now 3/1 and although still holding around the 12" mark there have been some changes; some impressively beautiful changes; four of them -
The ugly duckling starting to bud -
Buds open, proud and standing tall -
Up close stunning -
It's nice to watch the process unfold and have some color, especially being in the grips on winter.
The growth on our new Amaryllis was approximately 4" tall when we first planted the bulb on 1/17. Today, 2/16, it's up to 12" - a whopping 8" in 30 days and growing fast. I'm guessing it was sitting around the store I purchased it from for quite some time and didn't look too good but it was marked half off and I enjoy a good challenge every once in a while, so I jumped at it.
The support/measure stick has been marked off in 1" increments using a red marker. The black marks show the height of the bulb when first planted, as well as the foot marks.
