A Blast From The Past

Who remembers Herman’s Sporting Goods?!

Herman’s Sporting Goods was a sporting goods retailer in the United States founded in 1916. Unfortunately, it filed for bankruptcy in 1993 and closed completely in 1996.

Here’s a fishing lure I came across today, that I bought back in the day from Herman’s -

I have fond memories of Herman’s. I visited it often and spent quite a bit of time there. It holds a special place in my heart ❤️ and reminds me of a time and place that still brings a smile to my face, a tear to my eyes and tugs at my heart.

The Ole Frye "Fishin' Hole"

Similar to the iconic opening of the Andy Griffith show that features Sheriff Andy Taylor and his son Opie walking to a fishing spot.

Below was me recreating a similar theme in the Frye pond (not Myers Lake) and my soon to be wholesome life in Limestone (not Mayberry) -

The fishin' hole -

We've not had much rain, so the pond is very low, too low actually.  I could see some small fish, perhaps sunfish, oodles of tadpoles and several frogs but not a bite or a nibble was to be had, alas.

However, you know the ole saying, "A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work!", well it's true, VERY true.

Still Better Than A Good Day At The Office!

Blue Gill fishing with Emilie.

Boy, these dudes really go for the grubs!

We spent about a half hour and caught about 13.

A Bad Day of Fishing...

Emilie and I went fishing the other afternoon.  As you can see it was a beautiful day and we essentially had the whole pond to ourselves!  By the time we were wrapping things up Emilie had perfected her casting!  This allowed me to be able to sit back and watch her having fun.

She caught ~15 Bluegill, some tiny and some good sized but all went back in.
