Follow Up - Ouchy Boo Boo!

Here's an update to my December 24, 2024 posting titled, "Ouchy Boo Boo!".  The somewhat embarrassing mishap I had while shaking a rug off my deck.

I had a routine doctors appointment on February 19, so I mentioned the accident to my doctor and how it was still quite swollen and painful.  She thought it best to have some x-rays taken to see what was going on.  Well, the good news is - "No acute fractures or dislocations." with the test results being normal, see below -

Seems I need to give it time to heal and prolly will need to incorporate some stretching of the finger in an effort to get back to full mobility.

Ouchy Boo Boo!

Yup, I think I might have broken something, my index finger or knuckle on my right hand yesterday, OUCH!  Embarrassingly, I am going to tell you how...

Now, I wish I had some heroic story where I punched a bag guy in the mouth for being disrespectful and that "you should see the other guy". However, truth be told I did it while shaking a throw rug from off my back deck.  UGH, please don't ask.  That's all I'm fessing up to.

It's all sorts of non-Christmassy colors this morning, very swollen, aches terribly and I'm unable to bend it.

What terrible timing too, GRRR!  I'm right handed, so this is already proving to be a challenge, not to mention that my oldest daughter, her fiancée and my youngest daughter are coming over this afternoon to hangout, open gifts and have dinner.

This is going to be a challenge for sure to prepare dinner and all but I refuse to let this get in the way of enjoying time with my girls and having a nice meal, so giddy up!

Fortunately, most of the house cleaning I was doing in anticipation of visitors I had completed, so most everything is shinny, neat and clean.

I Am Not A Fan of the Dentist

This is a x-ray of my teeth, top left. As you can see they're crowned, actually I have a fortune in crowns and crown work in my mouth!  The item circled in red is a cavity that is starting, which has been causing me pain and discomfort for a while now when chewing on that side of my mouth.

As everything in my life these days, this isn't going to be an easy fix and on top of that it's going to be a costly one too!

Visit #1 today, my dentist remove the crown on the tooth in question.  She did this by cutting it off, FUN!  Once the crown was removed, she was able to get a better look and assess the situation.

Frick'n Murphy am I right?!

The age of the tooth and the location of the cavity being too close to the nerve, of course I need a root canal on this tooth.  She also thinks it best to have this procedure done now before installing the new crown and having to drill through it.

Couldn't get an appointment with the specialist until a week after Thanksgiving.  So with the temporary crown I'm now sporting it doesn't look like I'll be doing too much chewing and enjoying of a Thanksgiving meal.

Looking like I might have to consider more of a "liquid" 🍻 <wink, wink> Thanksgiving day meal...

Splinter Ouchies!

Back in early September, when I was mowing the lawn, I rub up against a fence post and subsequently got stabbed with a good size splinter.  Fortunately, I was wearing long pants, which minimized the ouchies!  I was able to pull the splinter out, continued mowing and thought nothing of it.  After my shower that evening I tried to assess the ouchie but since it was on the outside part of my right leg, I couldn't get at it, nor really see it; I simply don't bend that way.  I applied Neosporin and a band-aid and forgot about it.  However, over the next couple of days it swelled up, got red and was super sensitive, so much so that it was keeping me up at night.

I thought it best to visit my local urgent care facility just to be safe.  That was back on September 7th.  The nurses and doctor were terrific, an overall great experience.  However, as nice and friendly, and being a jokester as the doctor was, all he did was look at the wound and ever so gently pressed the area, then claimed he didn't think there was anything in there, that it was infected, put me on antibiotics for a week and instructed me to soak in the tub.

Fast forward to October 21, YES 44-days later, and see what I pulled out of the wound, picture above!  I kid you not! After all this time the wound was not healing and although not sensitive any longer I did occasionally get a zing here and there depending on how the area was hit and that right there explains it!

Today is the 30th and the wound is just about healed.

I'd really be pissed had my insurance not covered my visit 100%.
