The Ole Homestead At Night

Here's a shot of the outside of my house with some Christmas lights.

Pretty basic, nothing too fancy.

80s Homemade Nativity Set

So, I finally pulled out, unwrapped, inventoried and washed the nativity set that my mother made at ceramic back in the mid 80s.  They've been in a cardboard box tucked away in the corner of my garage for many many years now; it was time and long overdue.

It was perfect timing and I now have them on display for the upcoming holidays.

Updated pic on 12-14 with a new Christmas colored table cloth -

Does anyone of my Tennessee relation recognize this beautiful angel from the early 70s?!?!

Here's a hint -

I have this lovely lady sitting on my mantel, where she'll be staying all year long.

Unless one of my Tennessee cousins wants to come up for a visit and take her home with them...

Out With The Old...

Spur of the moment purchase while out running errands the other afternoon, brandy new couch pillows!

It was time for a change, as the others were quite old and honestly, I didn't care for them anyway.  Too dark and too firm.

These new ones are so much softer, and as you can see, they pop better against the dark brown.

Outside Christmas Decorations - Done

I spent some time in the yard a couple weeks ago to finish raking, getting the driveway markers in place and to do a little decorating for Christmas.  I put out my Christmas flag, hung a couple red bows on the lampposts and put out the Christmas spotlight, which casts images against the house.

Not over the top by any imagination, just simple and basic.

DIY Door Swag

Made me a Christmas door swag from items I picked along my walk the other morning!  I went prepared, planning to pick these items, so I brought along my trusty hand pruners.  A snip here and a snip there and WALLA!

A nice big White pine branch, a bright red Winterberry branch, some Bittersweet and a couple pine cones, all tied together with some fishing line and BAM!

Rather be creative and resourceful, versus using my hard earned money on items mass produced by others.

Farm Stands and Fall in RI

I visited Emilie at URI a couple weekends ago and spent the day.  It was a beautiful warm fall day, so we stopped and had a nice lunch, then visited a couple of the area farm stands. The fall flowers were still in bloom and looked amazing.  The assortment, sizes and colors of pumpkins and gourds was overwhelming.  One place had some unusual and creative fall decorating offerings, e.g. straw chickens and ponies, as well as real face molded pumpkins.

Once you get off the beat'n path Rhode Island is a beautiful state with quite a bit to do and see and visit!

Welcome to Fall

Here are my fall decorations - a mum and three pumpkins.

Simple and easy, for both displaying and then disposing of, when the time comes.
