It’s A Sign

Okay folks can you spot what, I believe, is wrong in the first picture below -

Look at the sign!

Look at the direction it’s been mounted to face!

It’s facing inwards toward the soybean field!

What traffic is there out in the field that would need such a reminder? I’m fairly certain that geese cannot read, nor can they drive, so what gives?

I suppose it could be intended for the farmer when he’s out plowing or planting or harvesting the field but I think that’s doubtful and a bit of a stretch. This stretch of the walking trail is acres of field corn and soybean and on both sides of the road and trail. 

Rather, I think the post itself was either put in facing the wrong direction or it was used for something else at one point, maybe farm related; an old fence?!

Assuming I’m correct, this would be just another example of shoddy workmanship and poor work ethics. I mean who would mount a sign like that and not question it? Maybe it’s all about checking a box - install warning sign on walking trail, “check”/done. Next task…

To Set The Record Straight

It’s sad really, that this needs to be explained, alas.

Here's Your Sign, DAH!

We took a car ride to the Quabbin Reservoir on Monday.  We brought lunch and had a nice picnic overlooking the water.  We climbed the tower for an endless view is all directions, then made our way to the Windsor Dam and Quabbin visitor center, which also houses station C-7 of the Massachusetts State Police.

We made numerous stops within the Quabbin along our way.  Each location appeared to have picnic tables available for the visitors to use.  Ironically, the only picnic tables that were chained under lock and key were those at the state police station. You'd think that the other locations would be locked versus at the station where the state police are seem coming and going and milling around.  Weird right?!

I took the picture below at the same state police center.  I took it simply because I was in awe at what I was seeing.  Do you see it too?!?!  Look again.  See it now?!

So, the heavy ~12' long metal bike rack is chained and locked to a rotted wooden post.  Not to mention that if you removed the top fence rail you'd be able to lift the chain over the top of the post.  What are they trying to prevent from being stolen the post, the bike rack or both?!  At least put the effort in and slide the chain through the hole in the post before padlocking.  Make it appear that someone tried and was thinking versus just doing what they're told.  Let's hope that the decision maker here doesn't carry a firearm...

Eggstructions

Above are the Easy to Grow instructions for a product called "Egg Plants". Egg Plants is a cool idea - it's a ceramic type egg that comes pre-filled with soil (growing medium) and flower seeds already sown. According to the instruction all you need to do is crack off the top of the egg , as you wood with a soft boiled egg, water and in 7 - 10 days your sporting a blooming (no pun intended) butterfly desired flower garden. Of course this remains to be seen. It's been 10 days today and nada, bubkis...

Step 1 reads, "Place plastic wrapped egg on a plate. Using a spoon, gently crack the top of the wrapped egg. Remove the plastic wrapping and broken pieces of egg." Pretty straight forward wouldn't you agree?

I've underlined and highlighted in red above the flaw in their instructions. You see in order to obtain said instructions one must remove the plastic wrapping!

Here's Your Sign

We're at the tail end of a major ice storm here in New England with flood warnings and wind advisories in effect. We've received upwards of 3" rain already with 2" more predicted to fall in the next couple of hours and many towns in New Hampshire are without power. The Fox25Boston morning news is covering this to death as with any 'breaking news' story.

So I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee and watching the storm coverage. The two lead anchors are doing a phone interview with a National Grid spokes person about the power loss and the progress on the repairs currently underway.

One of the newscasters asked the following question, "what advice do you have for the people who are sitting at home in the dark without power right now?"

In the words of Bill Engvall - "Here's your sign"!
