Again, spent a couple hours yesterday rummaging through a box of old toy stuff that I've had stored here in my basement for some time now.  All the "stuff", miscellaneous smaller toy, figurines, Matchbox cars, etc., from when I was a kid. Most are in worn to very worn condition - used, so not of any real value money wise, however, it was a nice break to reminisce.

I don't recall exactly but more than likely I used this for my soft boiled eggs...

The Ultimate Fall...

Well, I finally parted ways with this vintage Humpty Dumpty pillow of mine.

Continuing with my basement and garage cleaning, and now Spring cleaning, this dude was laid to rest in the big green 55-gallon reciprocal known around these parts as the trash can, alas.

So long old chum...

Brickskeller Endangered Species Beer Cans

Here are (4) Brickskeller endangered species beer cans from my collection.

From what I can tell these were made in and around 1977 by the Pittsburgh brewing company.  There were two series of twelve cans in each series - yellow and blue cans.  Unfortunately, I have only two from each set:
Houston Toad, Texas Lone Wolf, Leatherback Sea Turtle and Colorado Squawfish

Here is another interesting beer can of mine.

I only have the one and it's still full.

What a great show M*A*S*H was too!

Novelty JR Beer

OK, show of hands how many of you remember and/or were a fan of the television show "Dallas" that ran from 1978 to 1991?!

One of the main characters was a J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman).  However, I liked him better in "I Dream of Jeanie".

Another unusual collectible was J.R. Ewing Premium Beer. Distributed by Pearl Brewing Company in San Antonio, Texas, J.R. beer was sold from “J.R.’s private stock,” with the personal message, “If you have to ask how much my beer costs, you probably can’t afford it – J.R. Ewing” printed on each can.

This is the one and only can in my collection.

P.S. I never watched or cared for the show Dallas, nor am I a fan of the Dallas Cowboy's!

Iron City

Here is a small sampling of the Iron City beer cans of mine.  As you can see these cans display the champion professional Pittsburgh teams back in the day - Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.

It would be nice if this practice was still done today. I could add to my collection and, selfishly being a New England sports fan, they'd all contain my winning teams!  May need to reach out to Jim Koch, the founder of the Boston Beer Company and his famous Samuel Adams beers, to see if he'd be willing to resurrect this tradition.

Cool stuff non-the-less!

Deals of The Past

From the Boston Globe newspaper, circa 1995.

Check out the prices!

Amazing at how the prices have changed so dramatically, product sizes are gotten smaller (paying more for less) and "Triple Coupons" are unheard of now a days.

Hubba Hubba Old Frothingslosh

One of the more unique brands of beer has been Pittsburgh Brewing’s Olde Frothingslosh. It was invented as a joke by Pittsburgh radio station KDKA’s Rege Cordic in the early 1950s. The local brewer picked up the idea as a humorous Christmastime promotion and “the pale stale ale” ended up as the inspiration for about 30 different beer cans, most created specifically for collectors.

Here are a couple pictures of the Old Frothingslosh beer cans that are in my collection.

Think I'll stick with "Penny"!

Penny, Penny, Penny...

Although, there is a character named Penny on The Big Bang Theory, this is a different Penny I'm referring to and I'm NOT taking about the one-cent coin.

Tennents larger, Scotland's market leading brand of pale larger since it was first produced back in 1885, created several series of cans over the years but none more popular than their "Penny" series.

These "Penny" cans are from the early 1980's.

I think me has a hanker'n for some "Penny"...

Vintage Beer Cans

I finally started documenting my beer can collection this past weekend. I have boxes and boxes of beer cans, each containing approximately 24 cans.  My first pass is to take pictures of them all.  It's a tedious process but fun and interesting just the same.

Here is the first picture I took and it just so happens to be of the two oldest cans I have.  As you can see they're in rough shape and quite rusty, which will effect their values but interesting.

These are known as "cone top" style cans and are from around the late 1930's.

Coitus Maybe...

See the pattern here?!?!

"BIG CHIEF"

I'm sure this is considered inappropriate now-a-days.  However, not back when I was growing up.

I found this while going through some of my "stuff" (crap) that I had when I was a youte.  There's just so much that it's overwhelming but I'm making a dent, slowly.  Of course if you saw what my basement looked like you'd think otherwise.

What a deal!

JoAnne and Marty McFly picked up our Thanksgiving turkey the other day.

Mmm and it was delicious!
