On one of my morning walks I came across this female Painted turtle in deep concentration laying her eggs. Although, close to a small pond, I question her location - why there. As it turns out that spot gets mowed on a regular basis, so hoping the eggs don't crush under the weight of the mower or any of the youngsters get mowed as they emerge.
In all my years this is a first for me, seeing such a thing.
